Transgender man gives birth
Imagine living as a man for years and then deciding that you wanted a child so bad that you stopped taking the necessary hormones to remain outwardly male?
Thomas Beatie, the man who started all our tongues wagging when he announced he was pregnant earlier this year, has given birth in an Oregon hospital. ABC News reported Beatie, 34, had given birth to a healthy baby girl at the St Charles Medical Center.
Though he was born female, Beatie underwent a sex change operation ten years ago and became legally male. Two years ago, he and his wife Nancy – who have been together since Beatie’s operation – decided to start a family.
Unfortunately Nancy had previously undergone a hysterectomy and could no longer bear a child, but Beatie was able to conceive as he had opted to retain his female reproductive organs at the time of his sex change operation.
He stopped taking testosterone and once his menstrual periods has re-started, he was artificially inseminated. The first pregnancy resulted in an ectopic pregnancy of triplets and Thomas underwent emergency surgerty. The second attempt was successful and that’s when the news spread around the world that a legally male person had become pregnant.
Most people thought it was a huge hoax but Oprah Winfrey sorted it all out when Beatie appeared on her show last April. He told Oprah that his pregnancy didn’t define who he was. Because he was a man didn’t diminish his desire to have a child.
How do you feel about it? Frankly to me it’s a non-event. So what if a couple wanted a baby and figured out a way to have one? Is it really any of our business? Should people have an opinion about what these two people do in the privacy of their home?
I say congratulations to them both and I hope their little baby girl brings them huge amounts of joy and happiness. She’ll do that and she’ll do all the other things other kids do. She’ll poo in her pants, she’ll have tantrums, she’ll sneak stuff from the grocery store and she’ll leave her tricycle behind dad’s car.

Now come the challenging part raising the child.

Fine. Now you are a woman trapped in a mutilated body. As is proven by giving birth.
The publicity is all good but have the parents spared a thought for the child?
How is he/she going to deal with the stigma and weird stares while growing up?

I’ve seen more so called “normal” families and “normal” kids that in my humble opinion have a huge mental problem that I would make a bet that this girl will grow up perfectly “normal”….

We did a piece not too long ago about this man/woman. I guess i wish him/her the best of luck but i cant help thinking that child is going to be extremely confused….i mean is she going to call he/she mummy or daddy?
I agree with you, none of anyone else’s business. It’s not them (the parents) who are going to create problems for the child, but everyone who is going to judge them.
